Abstract for Presentation

Evolution of Crystalline Silicon Solar Cell Technology in the New Century

Over the last 20 years, the conversion efficiency of crystalline silicon solar cells has been improved dramatically from around 14% to over 26%. The enhancement has involved the development of different type of cells, including traditional aluminium Backside Field (BSF) cell, Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell (PERC), Passivated Emitter and Rear Totally-diffused Cell, Heterojunction Solar Cell (HJT), Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) cell etc. Presented in this article is an analysis and discussion on the internal logic for the evolution of all these technologies. The prospects for further development are discussed.
